The workshop informations:
Palestinian oud player and composer, Adel Salameh was born in Nablus, Palestine, in 1966. he studied the oud
with the Iraqi master M'utaz Bayati. He started performing as a soloist while still living in the Arab World,
but immigrated to Europe in 1990. He quickly established a reputation as one of the finest performers of the
oud. He has performed in more than Fifty countries including Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea,
Malaysia,Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa, and numerous countries in North Africa, North America and Europe.
When performing as a soloist or with musicians from a variety of musical backgrounds, Adel believes that music
is an excellent tool to build bridges between various cultures. In an effort to tackle these cultural barriers,
he has worked with Turkish (Barbaros Erkose), Spanish (Eduaurdo Niebla), Indian (K Sridhar), Dutch Neuw Ensemble,
French, English, Italian and jazz musicians(Plain Sud).
Adel has worked with Womad/Real World since 1992,and performed at the most prestigious concert halls in Europe.
These include Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Centre in London, Concertgebouw, Royal Tropical Institute, Paradiso
in Amsterdam, Theatre d' Single (Antwerpen) Belguim, Institute of the Arab World in Paris, The Opera House and
the Auditorium in Lyon. He has also performed at many festivals throughout the World. He has been described as
the ambassador of Arab music in the West. Adel has compsoed music for films and theater like the thousand and one
night which took place in Lyon in 2007 ..... Adel has recorded 9 cds with different record companies including Real
World and Enja records in Germany.
The Aoud Workshop:
Adel SHAMS EL-DIN, an Egyptian master of the Riqq (percussion with little cymbals) is well versed in the
classical and the popular rhythms of the various Arab traditions. He has been a close friend of Julien Jalal Eddine Weiss,
and has worked with the group Al-Kindi since the day it was founded.
The following instruments can be taught:
Naziha Azzouz was born in Algeria and moved to France at the age of 12. She started singing the old Andalucian music at a very
early age and performed in Algeria, France, Morocco, the United Kingdom, and Canada. This course may be offered if there is enough of interest. So please be so king make an appointment to let us know if you have interest to take lessons in Kanun.
