Vendelio Venere, Padua 1582 -- original Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien C 36

This lute by Vendelio Vener ( VVendelio Venere - Wendelin Tieffenbrucker ) is actually shown in Vienna in the Kusthistorisches Museum. Originally this lute has been build as a 7- course lute, and has been later altered into a 5 course lute, but without changing the bridge. Vendelio Venere, Renaissanclaute Padua 1582, Wirbelkasten mit Löwe This model I do offer with 7, 8 and 10 cources. Using this model in the 10-course version, you will have an instrument in your hands, that makes you able to play all the available renaissance music and further more to play continuo on that instrument. It's really big body gives this model a great volume and a force to be strong enough to accompany a singer or flute player. You may use this model, replacing an archlute or a chitarrone!

this lute will have the following features:

  • Mould with 13 ribs made out of curly maple or shaded yew
  • Soundboard made out of fine european spruce, having the original design for the rose, rosewood or ebony inlay around the edge to give a good protection
  • The neck is made out of lime or poplar wood which is then veneered with ebony or other wood on request
  • The fingerboard is made out of ebony or rosewood
  • The standard string length is 65 cm, but it is possible to reduce this on request down to 63 cm
  • The pegbox is made out of beech and veneered with ebony rosewood
  • For the pegs I use plum wood, a very good wood for this purpose or boxwood
  • The mould is varnished with french polishing
Neck, fingerboard and pegbox are oiled, the soundboard is covered with wax.
