restored syrian Aoud from about 1940

This is the instrument is the one I started work on with a professional model. The pics you can see at the top show the condition in which I received it. This condition made it impossible to play and furthermore to use most part of it for a repair. The top has cracked while breaking off the bridge, a thin veneer has been glued on as the top had been sanded too thin to be used on. The top block had a lot of woodworm holes and must be partly replaced. The neck had a crack at the end where the pegbox is glued in, caused by breaking out of the pegbox which was repaired in a very bad way.

This instrument is very similar to instruments by the Nahat family. The size corresponds, the design and the wood used for it. The mould is made out of walnut wood and maple. After finishing the restauration of this instrument I started to make copies of it. Informations about the copies you will find on my syrian oud page.

This instrument I have restored meanwhile. The top had to be replaced and there is an new neck and pegbox. This oud is now played by Marwan Abado, Vienna and in 2005 he published his new compact disc "Kabila", using this instrument. ( Marwan Abado has been elected as second best artist 2006 in the category "Folk & World" by the austrian music magazine concerto. ) This disk can be purchased by me and some informations about it you will find here.
